Hass avocado produced in the Peruvian highlands will reach China

The first shipment of Hass avocado from small producers in the Cusco region was made to China. This season, 200 tons of this fruit will be exported.
A total of 10 containers of Hass avocado produced by small producers in the Cusco region will be exported to Shanghai, China, thanks to a strategic alliance with the company Camet Trading and the articulation work of Sierra y Selva Exportadora.
The first 20-ton container of Hass avocado was transferred from Cusco to Ica, where the packing process was carried out by the company Sun fruits. At the packing plant, the National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA) carried out the respective inspections for the shipment.
Thus, the first container of Hass avocado was transferred to the Port of Callao where it began its journey to Shanghai, so it will reach its destination in 35 days. The last container will be shipped at the end of April and a total of 200 tons of this fruit will be exported.
Sierra y Selva Exportadora, an entity attached to the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, noted that this first shipment of Hass avocado from the Peruvian highlands to the Asian giant opens a new market for small producers, and in the coming seasons (2018-2019) they expect to export not only Hass avocado from Cusco, but also from other regions of the Peruvian Andes.
For this shipment, Sierra y Selva Exportadora provided technical assistance to 160 Hass avocado growers in the district of Limatambo, province of Anta, Cusco, in terms of field management and supported them in obtaining GLOBALGAP certification, for which Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) were also implemented. As a result, the company reached the level required to access the market.
